Any Texas resident may apply here for a library card that will immediately provide access to our online services. To check out physical items, you must then come to the library.

- Provide proof of current address, such as:
- Current voter registration card
- Current vehicle insurance card
- Any item mailed to the address within the last 30 days showing the applicant’s name
- Must have the signature of a parent or legal guardian.
- The parent/guardian must have their own library card in good standing.
- The parent/guardian must also provide identification and address verification as listed above.
- Children 5 years and older are eligible for a library card.
- Parents/guardians are responsible for all materials checked out and any fines incurred on a minor’s card.
- The applicant must be present at the library when the physical card is issued.
- For example, a parent may get a card for their child but cannot get a card for someone who is not present.
- Only one library card may be issued per person.
- Library cards must be presented when checking out materials.
- Patrons are responsible for all materials checked out on their library card.
- Lost or stolen cards must be reported immediately to the library to prevent unauthorized use.
- Replacement cards cost $2 each.
- Library cards grant borrowing privileges according to current library loan policies.
- Online access is for personal use only and is subject to the library’s terms of service.
- Library cards expire after 2 years.
- Expired library cards are deleted from the system, except that any overdue fines or fees remain on record.
- Renewal requires patrons to verify current address and contact information.
- Patrons may renew by calling, emailing, or visiting the library in person.
Military personnel and businesses/organizations may be eligible for library cards under special circumstances—please contact the library for details.
TexShare cards are provided for patrons of the Gatesville Public Library. This card provides patrons access to restricted borrowing privileges at other libraries.
In order to be issued a TexShare card, patrons must have an established Gatesville Public Library account in good standing (no outstanding fines or fees) for a minimum period of six months. The account must show a history of borrowing and returning items to the Gatesville Public Library at least once a month for the previous six months.
Reference & Genealogy are noncirculating; items that have been in the Gatesville Public Library for less than 2 months cannot be borrowed by TexShare card holders; library equipment cannot be borrowed by TexShare cardholders.
