Drinking and driving

Drinking and driving is a serious problem. Thousands of people die or are seriously injured each year from DWI related accidents. The Gatesville Police Department is very aggressive in arresting and prosecuting drunk drivers.

The legal limit in Texas for the Blood Alcohol Level (BAL) is 0.08%. This means that if you have a .08 BAL or higher, you are legally intoxicated and will likely be charged with DWI (Driving While Intoxicated). However, you can still be charged with DWI if your BAL is under 0.08 and your driving ability indicates you are impaired.

Remember that "intoxicated" includes other drugs besides alcohol. If you are driving while on a prescription drug or illegal drug that has diminished your driving ability, you could be charged with DWI.

Be safe. Driving a vehicle (or a boat) while intoxicated is not worth the risk to human life - yours or someone elses. Additionally, there is the financial burden associated with a DWI arrest and conviction as well as the conviction(s) resulting in you now having a criminal record.

Get a designated driver or call a cab.

Don't risk it.
