Wireless Access

Wireless Access Policy

  1. The Gatesville Public Library provides wireless access to its customers free of charge as a public service. Information passing through the network is not secured and could be monitored, captured, or altered by others.  The service has no guarantee or warranty.
  2. It is the customer’s sole responsibility to protect their information and equipment from all risks associated with using the Internet, including any damage or viruses that can occur as a result.  The Library assumes no responsibility for the safety of equipment while in the Library; customers must keep their equipment with them at all times.
  3. Library customers are cautioned that the Library is available to the public and is shared by users of all ages, backgrounds and sensibilities. Please consider this and respect others when accessing information and images.
  4. Please be aware that Texas Penal Code Section 43.21, et seq. states that “A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly displays or distributes an obscene photograph, drawing, or similar visual representation or other obscene material and is reckless about whether a person is present who will be offended or alarmed by the display or distribution.”
  5. Library customers may not use the Library’s wireless access to transmit or receive illegal or disruptive material.
  6. Library staff members are not available to provide technical assistance and the Library assumes no responsibility for laptop configurations, security, or changes to data files resulting from use of wireless Internet.
  7. Wireless users requiring sound must supply their own headphones and create no noise that might disturb others.
  8. Wireless users will not be able to print to Library printers from their equipment.
  9. Any restriction or monitoring of a minor’s access to the library’s wireless network is solely the responsibility of the parent or guardian.
  10. Violation of this policy or abuse of the Library’s networking equipment can result in the denial of access to the wireless network.
